Set of two lovely plum-colored glass AVON bottles from the 1970s. The bottles are purple glass with the Avon logo stamped on the base. The caps are purple glass with a plastic piece to hold them securely in place.
In 1886, David H. McConnell founded the California Perfume Company, which would become Avon, in New York City. As an unsuccessful book salesman, he concocted a rose perfume as a "free gift" to encourage people to buy his books. The perfume was so popular that McConnell decided to abandon the book business and start a perfume company. The company changed its name to Avon in 1939 in honor of Shakespeare's hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon.
Very good condition.
